Beara Camera Club

The September meeting will be held at Twomey's Bar, Castletownbere, on Wednesday 8 September 2010. Please bring 'Food and Drink' prints (A4 or 12"x8") for the Library display.

Beara Camera Club is offering photography courses both for beginners and for experienced amateurs. Each course comprises six weekly evening workshops of 1½-2hours in Castletownbere, and costs €80. Part I: Introduction to photography. No previous knowledge of photography is required. The course covers the basic operations of the camera, choosing shots, and the creative use of scene controls.Part II: Improving your photography.For those with some basic knowledge of photography who would like to learn more about camera controls and techniques. Part III: Style and Presentation.For those with some confidence in photography who would like to advance their skills by preparing a portfolio for display on a theme of their choice. The Distinctions Group is a forum for members who are experienced and confident photographers and who are preparing portfolios for submission to the Irish Photographic Federation or to the Royal Photographic Society for assessment and potential award of a 'distinction'—a recognised photographic qualification. The group meets monthly for informal discussions and mutual encouragement, but there is no tuition available. For more information, email us via the Contact Us page.

At the Annual General Meeting on 14 October 2009, the following were elected officers for the year: chair, John Post; vice chair, Aida Phelops; secretary, Sue Money; treasurer, Nick Padwick. Any of the officers can be contacted via the Contact Us page.

These are the proposed themes for future exhibitions in Castletownbere Library: September, Food And Drink; October, Wildlife. So you have plenty of notice—get shooting! But watch this space for additions or variations to the list.

We have a small element of competition by having a Photograph of the Month, chosen by a different member each month in rotation, from the display in the Library window. No prizes, only glory!
